The Chase Sapphire and the Capital One Venture Rewards cards are both high-profile travel rewards cards for people with excellent credit. At first glance they seem pretty similar, and even their signup bonuses and rewards programs overlap. But when you really look at the numbers, some glaring differences appear.

Verdict: For travel rewards, the Capital One Venture wins hands down, despite its annual fee. It even outpaces the premium Preferred version of the Chase Sapphire by a long shot, thanks to its flat 2% reward rate. As an added kicker, all Capital One cards also have no foreign transaction fees when travelling abroad and the Venture has no balance transfer fees.

However the Sapphire takes the win for non-travel rewards, since Chase Ultimate Rewards points can still be redeemed for cash at full value, while No Hassle Miles are only worth their full potential when redeemed against travel expenses.
