There are a number of instances when you might want a business credit card online application and, depending on what you’re applying for, there are times when that’s just the ticket. There are other times, though, when it’s best to go through your bank personally. Here are the details on getting the most from your credit application!

Types of Business credit card applciations

There are two main reasons you might be doing a business credit card application: to get a business credit card (logically enough) or to get a merchant account. A business credit card is pretty self-explanatory, so what exactly is a merchant account?

Simply put, it’s an account that allows you to directly accept credit card payments from consumers without using an intermediary like PayPal or its ilk.

When doing a business credit card online application for a merchant account, though, make sure you really need it. If you only accept credit card payments online, PayPal might be just as easy. If you’re taking payments via phone or in person, you’ll definitely need that merchant account.

When to go online (and when to stay home)

The cyber world certainly makes things more convenient, but that isn’t always the same as saying it makes them better or easier! There are times when a business credit card online application is all of those, though. They include:

-If you have a long established business with a credit history and good rating

-If you’re only looking for the simplest of credit cards

-If you do pretty much all of your business online anyway, and therefore it makes sense to keep your business transactions online.

There are times, though, when it makes a lot more sense to do these things in person — actually go down to your local bank, I mean. Those times include:

-If your business is new or has no credit history (which makes it harder to get a credit card — a bank will be more likely to deal with you if they already have a history with you and know you).

-If you’re not sure about what you’re doing, especially with a merchant account.

-If you conduct a lot of business the old fashioned way (ie, person to person, such as having a shop in town). You’re going to have to deal with the bank eventually; might as well start things on a positive note.

Credit is essential these days, so whether you apply in person or go for that online business credit card application, you’re taking a step in the right direction.
